La Nube, an exciting new children’s museum and STEAM discovery center in El Paso, TX, is officially open to the public. Spanning more than 70,000 square feet across four stories, the unique museum caters to the kid in all of us with hands-on interactives and fun learning experiences that invite imagination, creativity, and exploration.
Cortina was brought onto the project by Gyroscope in 2020 to help design and implement a personalization system to allow young visitors to save photos, videos, and audio clips of their creations, which can be accessed via a custom microsite following their visit. The entire museum is featured in both English and Spanish and all of the interactive media features keypads and text to speech to increase accessibility. Much of the work Cortina produced is integrated with physical and mechanical elements.
In the Fly High gallery, guests can engage with a 28-foot paper airplane launcher. This interactive exhibit allows guests to create and refine their paper airplane designs, then launch them through a flight course. The flight is digitally tracked and analyzed for feedback on the design. Plus, guests receive a slow-motion video of their airplane’s flight for a memorable takeaway.
The Challenge It gallery features a competitive race car exhibit. Here, guests can design their own cars and race them down a speed track. They can compete to see who has the fastest car and learn from their race stats and video reviews displayed on a screen.
Spanning all four stories of the center is a 50-foot climber, which includes a wheelchair challenge course at the top level. Digital check-in stations scattered throughout the climber allow guests to take photos from unique angles, control lighting elements, and participate in a scavenger hunt.
Emphasizing 21st century learning skills through a captivating blend of physical and digital experiences, La Nube provides a space where visitors of all ages can let their creativity guide their experience.
